New Consumer Protection Law: Is your business compliant?

The new Consumer Protection Law (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, No. 35/2026) will enter into force on 2nd August 2026, introducing new and amended obligations for all businesses that operate with consumers.

The obligation to ensure compliance does not apply only to traditional retailers. It also covers service providers, e-commerce businesses and all other entities offering goods, services, digital content or digital services to individual consumers.

In particular, businesses should review and update:

  • General Terms and Conditions;
  • Consumer information and mandatory disclosures;
  • Complaint handling procedures;
  • E-commerce and distance selling practices;
  • Product warranties and conformity requirements;
  • Price lists, offers and commercial communications.

Considering the prescribed misdemeanor penalties for non-compliance, we recommend that all businesses dealing with consumers conduct a legal compliance review and implement the necessary adjustments before the Act becomes applicable.
